Last weekend, NTT DoCoMo Innovation partnered with Mashape and hosted Global Hack. Global Hack is one of the first hackathons in Tokyo, where Japanese developers spent the weekend hacking to win a trip for 4 to Silicon Valley.
Although hackathon culture is just beginning to develop in Japan, the event was well received. Final presentations were done in true hacker spirit; with no slideshows allowed, and featuring only demos of the hack to judges.
The most creative hack I saw was a stuffed animal controlled by a phone that could recognize your voice, face and tell you the weather. It featured popular Mashape API Lambda Facial Recognition and Geolocation by ipaddresslabs.
The winning team created a mobile app that uses facial recognition and sentiment analysis to help you find similar dating partners in your area.
